It was a bad year, but only Irma and Maria made landfall as Category 5 storms on the Saffir-Simpson scale. Irma passed over the Carribean before striking Florida in September. Maria took a similar path over the Carribean just two weeks later, including a direct and devastating pass over Puerto Rico, before turning north.
